IT Infrastructure Jobs

It is no secret that our nations infrastructure is aging badly.   The Obama Stimulus plan has as one of it’s initiatives to repair and buildout our nations infrastructure to prepare it for the demands of the next generation.  Included in this initiative is the repair and construction of roads, bridges, schools, airports, other public projects such as rural broadband, as well as other methods of transit.  At this point $60 Billion of the stimulus plan funds are allocated towards this National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank.  Obama has esimated that this portion of the stimulus could generate as much as 2 million jobs.

To accomplish this rebuilding and growth will require employment of people with education and training as civil engineers, project managers, construction managers, telecomunications engineers, and computer-aided drafting.

The civil engineering profession is greatly needed in this repair and buildout as they do much of the planning for the jobs and projects to be done.  This profession generally provides for an above average income as a career choice, often paying in the six figures.  There are government incentives in the form of tax credits for employers to assist employees get further education as well as government grants to individuals.  Since most of the money for infrastructure jobs will not be spent for a couple years this gives you time to get some education in civil engineering or related infrastructure career fields. Studying civil engineering is widely available at local community colleges, so get on the right track with the right education, and get a piece of this area of employment that will be around for many years to come.
